What is family? I’m sure, depending on what culture I questioned, that question would be answered with a million different answers. There was a song out a few years ago by one of my favorite artists, Garth Brooks. The song basically painted the picture of what family truly is. In fact, one of the lines in the song is this, ‘if blood is thicker than water, then love is thicker than blood.’ That line in that one simple song has stuck with me over the years. Continue reading

Paper: pretty cool invention isn’t it? It’s interesting to look back at the history of paper, or other forms for that matter. To me, what’s most interesting is how that tree made of unbelievably hard wood can become something so thin and fragile. It honestly blows my mind. I want to invite you to do something–take out a sheet of paper. It could be from a notebook or simple printer paper. Take it and just set it on the desk next to you. Take a long, hard look at that sheet of paper. Go ahead, I’ll wait… Continue reading

Today I want to expound: some of you may be reading this and thinking, “What exactly is Soul Food for the Chicken?” We get this constantly. Most of the time the response we see is, “Soul Food for the Chicken! That’s funny! Kind of like the Chicken Soup thing huh?” Well no, not really. But it is kind of funny! That’s why we like it. Just say it out loud once, “Soul Food for the Chicken.” Makes you smile a bit, huh? Or feel like an idiot. Either way, we like it. Continue reading

So maybe you’re like me when it comes to drinking water. I really enjoy drinking it….I do! But there are so many other tasty choices when it comes to your drink of choice. Mine? Nothing taste better than an ice cold Dr. Pepper! Yours? Maybe a cold Coke. Maybe you like the diet drinks. It could be that a nice glass of wine for dinner is the cure. I think you would agree that there are so many choices, and honestly, most of them taste better than water. Yet our great marketing gurus have made it so easy to get our hands on a sip of water!
I bet at your local grocery store there is ONE WHOLE ISLE dedicated just to water alone! Think about it!!!! How insane is this! But again, if you’re like me, we don’t drink near enough. In fact, and now I’m being way too honest, I really only drink it when I have bottles of it sitting at my disposal. When this is the case I drink a ton of water! Even though I know ‘buying’ water really doesn’t make much sense at all. I bring up water simply because out of all the tasty drinks we could choose from….there is really only one that quenches our thirst. Yes, you know as well as I do, it’s water.
How about in your life? I know you’re thirsty. Maybe not now but you have those moments. The ones where life just doesn’t seem to be fulfilling you. Maybe your marriage. Maybe your career. Maybe the money. You know you’re thirsty you just don’t know what for. Maybe it’s as simple as taking a glance at the ‘drinks’ of life you’re choosing. They may taste sweet……but they don’t quench. The cool thing is this, just like at the grocery store when you walk down that isle of drinks, or at the restaurant as you check out the menu of drinks, there is much to choose from. But what’s even more awesome is that YOU get to choose what to drink! And what’s even crazier than that is we have been offered in this life, YES in this life, a drink that will quench all thirst! It’s a kind of water. But a kind of water than never runs out. Maybe that’s what you’re seeking.
