We Need a Change
I think we would all agree our world could use a little change. Now, I want you to take away the thoughts of opinion for a second. Whether they be religious, political, economical, etc. and block those thoughts out just for a few moments. Try to look at the world, more specifically our culture, and read this thought again. ‘Our world could use a little change.’ I want you to get away from your own opinions and agenda for a second so you can see our culture through an unbiased eye. The reason I mention this is simple: when we look at others through OUR opinions, then we don’t see the whole picture. When we view others from OUR personally driven agenda we then forget that others are involved. So take away your politics, your religion, your up-bringing just for a moment and get a glance at our culture–it could use a little change. Let me explain:
Did you know that 1 in every 8 AMERICANS suffer from starvation? Did that just surprise you as it did me when I first discovered this recent study? It probably surprises us so much because, for the most part, we eat 3 BIGGIE SIZED meals a day. Plus the soda in between and the Twix or 2 here and there. Maybe it surprises us because most of us don’t really think the guy holding up the ‘will work for food sign’ in the Walmart parking lot is really hungry. No, if we were honest, we really think he should get off his lazy rear and get a job. Or could he be scamming us? Maybe it surprises us because most of the 1 in 8 starving Americans are under the age of 18. In other words, they are the little ones that live right down the street from you. Yes those little ones you smile and wave at every morning. Their mom works 2 jobs and dad has 3. But these jobs barely pay the mortgage and the debt they piled themselves in. When these little ones get home from school mom and dad are either gone, or asleep, so they fend for themselves. Or maybe its the folks downtown, the ones we choose to ignore as we drive to work every day. The ones we see, yet never notice. Yes, America is the land of the free, it’s also the richest country in the world with an unbelievably high poverty level.
Remember! No opinions allowed here! Just simple, everyday facts of what’s happening in our own backyard.
Another question: do you know how many people have lost their jobs in America over the last 4 months? Google it today. I think you will be astounded. If my understanding serves me correct, at least 5 to 10 people receiving this email has lost a job over the last 4 months. Let me know if you’re one of them. I think we can help. Has your neighbor lost their job? A family member? How will you help?
Did you know our children are less physically active NOW than ever? Studies show it. Videogames, TV, school, busyness. Kick your kids out of the house and onto the lawn for a few hours a day. It won’t kill them I promise. Oh! You might consider going out with them too! Why? Did you know obesity is at an all time record high in our fair country? Yet we wonder why diabetes and cancer and heart attacks and stress are overwhelming us? Could it possibly be because we are eating things no human was meant to eat and we aren’t in any form of health? Just a thought. Ask any doctor, they will tell you that most disease is stemmed from lack of caring for one’s self. Some disease is inherited but most is self inflicted. Yes, I think our world needs a little change. I wonder what would happen if, instead of being so focused on I, we could be more concerned about WE. What would happen if we truly began to look out for the concerns of others more than the concerns of ourselves? What would happen if I truly loved you more than I loved myself? What would our culture look like if I truly gave to that man on the corner? What would our country be if, instead of feeling sorry for those that are currently unemployed, we gave them jobs! Even if it was part time! How would that change our way of life.
What if instead of depending on our government to change things we took matters into our own hands and changed things? What if we fed the 1 in 8 starving? What if we employed the unemployed? What if we went to the prisons and visited the ones there? What if we cared for the orphans? What if we prayed for each other? What if we regarded others more highly than ourselves? Shall I even ask……what if our wealthy gave money to the needy? What if our needy gave all they had back? What if…
It would change us friends. It would truly make our culture free again. Because freedom has less to do with the flag you fly or the colors you pledge to than it does with the state of mind and spirit you posses. Thus I say, I think our culture could use a little change. In fact, I think our culture could use a little freedom. We’ve been enslaved for too long. It’s time we pledge allegiance to what matters. And what matters has nothing to do with the flag that waves or the colors it represents. No, it has to do with whom you serve and why. Freedom has nothing to do with your politics or your religion. It has nothing to do with what you wear or say. It has to do with the action you take everyday to make this world a better place for someone else. Freedom is simple…These aren’t my words, yet they are freedom. ‘Love God. Treat others better than yourself.’ Those 2 things alone would bring change. And, well, we could use a little change.
