Stop and Smell the Aromas
Aromas. Take a moment to think back on a time you smelled something amazing. Maybe it was fresh baked home made cookies. Could it have possibly been your favorite dish at that restaurant you visited yesterday? Maybe it was grandma’s home made pecan pie you had last Sunday after lunch! How about that candle flickering on your counter? Aroma. I’m always amazed how by simply smelling an aroma I can almost taste it. It’s like a great aroma engages all other senses.
The same can be said for bad aroma. The part of the country we live in is filled with dairies, which means lots and lots of milk cows. Lots and lots of cows. Thousands of cows. Maybe hundreds of thousands of cows. Got the picture? You can imagine the aroma….especially on days when the wind blows just right! The joke around here is, ‘it smells like money!’ Well, to someone I’m sure it does, but to most of us it just stinks.
Compare these two examples of aroma to your life. The way you live lets off an aroma. Either one of pleasure and beauty or one of stench and nastiness. Today, make sure you engage people with the way you live. Engage them to the point that they desire to find out what your life is about. Engage them with the aroma of beauty so they may see something good in you.

Mitch, you will relate to this because of ‘The Traveler’s Gift’-by Andy Andrews that you shared. Don’t you just enjoy being around those who exhibit wisdom. The aroma of wisdom is a comforting place to be.
I know you will concur with this assessment, that your dad which I have had the priveledge to be around quite a bit the last few months, is one of those people you can trust to not make a snap judgement about anything or anyone, but to carefully think through a situation and draw upon his life experiences before suggesting a solution or a plan for dealing with a situation. It is just pleasant to be around those who have chosen wisdom. Thank you Mike for sharing your gift of wisdom with those you encounter on this journey.
I want to seek wisdom. I want to end with an excerpt from Andy’s book.
“A wise man will cultivate a servant’s spirit, for that particular attribute attracts people like no other. As I humbly serve others, their wisdom will be freely shared with me. He who serves the most grows the fastest. I will become a humble servant. I will look to open the door for someone. I will be excited when I am available to help. I will be a servant to others. I will listen to the counsel of wise men. I will choose my friends with care. I will seek wisdom.”
May we all seek wisdom so that when others are around us they will so appreciate the aroma and spirit of wisdom that they too would desire to emit the aroma of wisdom.
